A MASS for Bernstein

Douglas Webster prepared a multi-media, enhanced concert presentation of the work for the Bernstein centenary seasons 2017-2018 / 2018-2019.  Teamed again with Scenic and Lighting Designer Matthew Antaky (Carnegie Hall, Dallas Symphony, Cabrillo Music Festival, Columbus Pro Musica) this freshly-envisioned presentation honors the intended scope of the composer's vision while reducing the resources required that have impeded the work from being produced by smaller organizations.

Regarded as the leading interpreter and champion of the work, Douglas Webster has led over twenty-five productions of MASS as Celebrant, Stage Director or Producer including the premier performances at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center (post-renovation 2003), Tanglewood, Aspen, Cabrillo, Denver, Dallas, Portland, Eugene, Columbus, Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and The Vatican.

NEWS: 2017 AMERICAN SINGER PROGRAM PRESENTED IN AUSTRALIA

APRIL, 2017: Ipswich, Queensland  Presented as BROADWAY MASTERS

The American Singer program was presented as the template for the Broadway Masters training program.  With Mary Setrakian presenting her "Revolutionary Send" seminar.  Mary was on the faculty for American Singer for the first two seasons in Colorado.  She rejoins the program for the first International presentation of the class.

The American Singer Seminar was first offered in 1999 in Breckenridge, Colorado. Created to serve as a workshop to test and develop teaching methods for vocal performing artists. Specifically, singers of opera and musical theatre.

Now, seventeen years later, the study of musical theatre is widely provided by college and university programs.  And yet, the nurturance of the individual artist is still lacking. The American Singer program is dedicated to assisting young performers in finding their path to a career and their authentic voice as an artist.
